The Royal New Zealand Air Force Museum at Wigram, Christchurch opened in 1987 and is a memorial to all those who served, and those who died in the Royal New Zealand Air Force. Their stories are told through historical displays, aircraft, photographs, films and sound.

Royal New Zealand Air Force - 75 Years
Although military flying in New Zealand started years earlier, 1937 saw the formation of the independent Royal New Zealand Air Force.
In 2012 the Royal New Zealand Air Force and indeed all New Zealanders celebrated the 75th anniversary with a number of events throughout the country.

Royal New Zealand Air Force in World War Two
RNZAF
The Royal New Zealand Air Force was just a small force at the time of the outbreak of World War Two. When war was declared on 3 September 1939, personnel strength was 91 officers, 665 airmen in the Regular Force and 79 officers and 325 airmen in the Territorials. There were 102 aircraft, mostly second-hand Baffins and Gordons, the only new aircraft were five Oxfords and nine Vildebeests. In June 1944 the RNZAF had grown to a force of 42,000 personnel. The aircraft fleet had reached a peak of 1,336 by the end of 1944.

Since 1956 the Foundation also maintains more than 8.000 allied war graves situated all over the Netherlands.
